Top 3 Safari Spots to see Lion

Lions are a huge draw for anyone going on a luxury safari and we don’t blame them, these amazing creatures are so huge, so full of power and so daunting that they really do epitomize everything we know about Africa. To see them walking across the open plains with their pride, or with cubs, is nothing short of completely mesmerising and is something that everyone should get to experience whilst they are on safari. We specialise in getting people to the best spots to see exactly what they want, and if that’s lions then look no further:

1            Namiri Plains, Serengeti, Northern Tanzania

Namiri Plains Camp is situated in a vast private conservancy on the edge of the Serengeti, which was previously closed to the public for twenty years as it was being used for big cat research by the Frankfurt Zoo, as you can imagine this also means that the big cat viewing is second to none. One guest who stayed there for a few days reported seeing over eighty lions.

2            Duba Plains, Okavango Delta, Botswana

This lovely camp is also based in its own private conservancy in the wildest part of the Okavango Delta – it has built a name for itself as the top spot in Africa to see lions and buffalo interact, and particularly the lions hunting the buffalo. The lions here are 15% bigger than lions in other parts of Africa as they have adapted to hunt in deep water.

3            Richard’s River or Forest Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya

We couldn’t talk about lions and not mention Richard’s Camps in the Masai Mara – the camps are in two very different locations of the Mara, both of which are famous for having abundant lion. The camps are in private concessions so you don’t get any of the over crowding you might get in other parts of the Masai Mara. Lions are heard roaring almost every night in the Mara and this noise is one of the most iconic noises associated with Africa, and something which sends pleasant shivers down one’s spine.
