There are few places that people want to see more than the Northern Lights, and this is for good reason. The Northern Lights are one of the most beautiful natural phenomenons in the world and can only be seen from areas in the arctic circle. There are a few countries in the arctic circle that you can visit to see the Northern Lights. The absolute best bet would be to go to a place where there are plenty of other sites and attractions so you could make the best out of your holiday.

Sweden

Inside Sweden is some of the most fun that a traveler can have. There are great cities in Sweden that you can visit like Stockholm that you can get an urban fix from. But some of the most fun is heading out into the less populated areas of Sweden for a lapland holiday. The Sami people in the lapland region provide tons of fun for visitors. If you visit Jokkmokk, you can see a Sami constructed exhibition where you can meet and interact with Sami people and see what their culture is like. There are also safaris that you can take in this area. If you’re lucky you’ll be able to see animals particular to the Swedish lapland area, like moose, lynxes, brown bears, or wolverines.

Trondheim is an extremely fun town that any traveler looking for a fun time should visit. One reason that Trondheim is a great time is because it is a University town. University towns regularly have a wide variety of places to eat, drink, and dance because if they didn’t no students would go! This is also a royal town with the Nidarosdomen Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Stiftsgarden Royal Residence. If you want to see the great outdoors then you many want to visit the Troll’s Tongue in Odda. This is a rock structure that sticks out over a deep valley. Making it to the tip of the Troll’s Tongue is guaranteed to give every hiker a view that they will never forget.

Finland

Finland is another area that has its own Lapland people and experience. This can be one of the best places to visit in the Winter, especially if you want to see the house where Santa Claus resides. With all of the traffic that Santa gets during the Winter, it can make Finnish Lapland quite the crowded place. If you are looking for less foot traffic, try visiting after the holiday season. For a complete and total change of pace, visit Pyynikki Park. Inside Pyynikki Park you can go to the top of the Observation Tower Tampere for a fascinating look over the Finnish landscape. If you walk up to the top of the tower there may be an even greater reward than the view, donuts. Pyynikki has famous donuts that you are only allowed to eat if you make the successful trip to the top!
