When you’re a real traveller, you’re used to going to different places around the world to appreciate things. Whether that’s a beautiful beach, a fantastic ancient monastery carved into the rock, one of the seven wonders of the world, it doesn’t matter. Travel is all about seeing those amazing things that some people will only ever see on TV or read about it. It’s about experiencing life and everything it has to offer for yourself.
But for the seasoned traveller, it can sometimes be a bit too much – seeing all the sights and making sure you squeeze the most you can into every trip. Occasionally, it’s nice just to have a trip somewhere for the pure fun of it. If you haven’t done this in a while, think back to that first trip with your school friends when you went on holiday by yourself for the first time, without the handbrake of a parent or two. Did you do anything cultural at all? Or was it just a week in the sun, partying at night and catching up on your sleep on a sunbed?
Now, I’m not saying this is something that we should all aim for as a goal in life – but every now and then a holiday like that can be just what you need.
For me the kind of holidays Alicante has to offer are perfect for when you’re in the mood to be self-indulgent. You can stay at a great hotel by a beautiful beach and spend a week soaking up the sun, but if you feel energetic there are loads of water sports to get into. But maybe you want to spend a week shopping – Alicante has plenty of shopping malls and the town itself has plenty of individual shops that you can spend time mooching around. And if you’re not a shopper, you could always book into a hotel that has a spa and book yourself a treatment every day.
You’ll come back from a self-indulgent break feeling like a new woman, ready to get stuck back into work and the routine of life. So what if it’s not a cultural highlight of your travelling memories? As long as you had fun, that’s all that matters.
